Previous to this, Julie was the Global SVP of Strategic Relationships and “Chief Storyteller” for SAP. She earned this title as a result of nearly two decades of growing and cultivating her passion for marketing which she sees as a perfect blend of science, art and psychology. At SAP, while the SVP of Global Marketing, she put her craft to use as the leader of a set of marketing teams including, Customer Central – the storytellers, Corporate Portfolio Marketing – the thought leaders, visionaries and strategists, Global Executive Briefing Centers – the physical realization of story, demonstrations, and customized customer experience, and Services Marketing – the work horses running end-to-end marketing strategy, messaging, campaign management and pipeline growth for nearly 1/3 of the company’s revenues. After this she was tapped by the CEO to fill the role of SVP of Strategic Relationships to build the companies CEO relationship and influencer strategy, engineer CEO Summits and salons where thought leadership topics are discussed and debated, and CEO relationships are cultivated.
Her expertise has been nurtured at companies including Ford Motor Company where she spent 6+ years and is best remembered for the much lauded and innovative U.S. launch of the Ford Focus. From there, Julie ran global marketing communications for the Chrysler Group with responsibility for all branded communication efforts for the Chrysler, Jeep® and Dodge brands. Julie’s responsibilities included media planning, purchasing and creative; auto shows, branded events, sponsorships and partnerships; global agency management, interactive media, digital strategy and gaming, customer relationship management, lead generation, merchandising and licensing, and dealer advertising association communications. From here, she went on to Walmart as a SVP of Marketing that segued into the launch of her own marketing consulting firm. Her client list included, Credit Suisse, Time Inc., Whirlpool, Acxiom, ad agencies, and others including multiple startups.
Julie is not one to shy away from a challenge much evidenced by her successful efforts in moving the marketing industry’s perception and consciousness regarding media mix and stale industry practices, particularly as it pertains to the media buying and selling process where she proposed a new market driven system based upon the principles of the NASDAQ system. This effort thrives today both digitally and otherwise.
Along the way, Julie has been honored with many industry awards including in 2013 the Brand Innovators ‘Top 50 Women in Brand Marketing’. In 2012, Julie was honored by the Tri-State Diversity Council with The Most Powerful and Influential Women award. She was named as the Marketing All-Star for 2004 by Automotive News, Automotive Marketer of the Year by Brandweek and Working Mother’s Top 25 Women of 2004. This was succeeded by induction into the AAF Advertising Hall of Achievement for outstanding performance in the field of marketing/advertising to executives under 40 years old. In 2005, she was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame and a Top 100 Most Influential Women in the Automotive Industry. Also, in November of 2005, Chrysler was named Interactive Marketer of the Year by Ad Age, under Julie’s leadership. Finally, in 2006, Julie was awarded with the University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business “Distinguished Alumni” award.
